Ida Pace Purdue
"I make an earnest plea to my young sisters who may read these words. I urge you not to doff your interest in Chi Omega with your cap and gown but to regard our membership as something so precious that you will make of it a lifelong experience." Humble, brilliant, and wise, Ida Pace Purdue was the driving force behind Chi Omega's success in our early years. In 1896, she was an associate professor of English at the University of Arkansas at the time she was initiated into Psi Chapter. In 1899, the Governing Council elected her to be the first editor of the Fraternity's magazine; Ida oversaw the concept and development of The Eleusis' premiere issue, and managed its content and development until 1904 when she was elected S.H.
